2nd Grade

Tillamook

VIEW

This year, we’re launching a dedicated volleyball division just for 2nd graders. In past seasons, combining 2nd graders with the 3rd–4th grade group made it challenging to keep practices and games developmentally appropriate for everyone. Younger players often struggle with the strength and coordination needed to serve, pass, and rally consistently, which limited skill growth for older teammates.

Research supports this approach: the National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE) emphasizes that grouping children by developmental readiness—not just age—leads to better skill acquisition, more engagement, and reduced frustration (NASPE, 2004).

Our new 2nd grade group will focus on fun, foundational skills with age-appropriate goals. Players will practice twice a week, with scrimmages built into sessions and potential games later in the season. We’re excited to provide a space where all players can build confidence, learn the game, and grow at their own pace.
